The Master Design of Steel Structures will be held at the University of Naples Federico II, starting from October 2007.
The Master courses will be given in English language.
Main target of the Master is to provide higher level education in the specific field of steel structures. A second target of the Master is encouraging exchanges among knowledge and students coming from different countries, such improving cultural relationships between Naples and foreign Universities.
Students who have earned a 5-years degree certificate in Engineering or Architecture (or equivalent 3+2 years degree).
One-year-full-time duty is required to Master students; thus accommodation for foreign students has been arranged in a specific building facility, the Istituto Denza, located on the green Posillipo hill, where also sport facilities are available.
While the basic course lectures will be given at the School of Engineering of the University of Naples, the Istituto Denza in Posillipo (the same building complex where students can find accommodation and sport facilities), will host “Atelier” and seminars / short course activities.
In order to get a better efficiency and organization of the teaching activity, the basic courses are given by professors of the University of Naples and of other neighbouring Universities. However important contributions will come from guest Lecturers through seminars and short courses. A specific day in the week will be dedicated to these activities, as shown in the courses’ schedule.
Stage at industries, foreign Universities, and/or professional firms can be arranged during the final term.
The teaching/learning activity is organised in basic courses, “Atelier” activity, seminars and short courses, individual study, stage.
Basic courses cover the theoretical basis and create a common technical language.
In the so called “Atelier” activity student groups jointly work out a project under the supervision of a tutor.
Seminars and short courses will deal with specific research and design subjects of the construction steelwork, and will be mainly given by guest lecturers and visiting professors coming from other Universities that have already expressed interest in participating to the Master activities.
In the individual study activity the student, under the guidance of a lecturer, will develop an assigned research topic and will have to demonstrate the knowledge acquired on the subject, as well as synthesis and presentation skill.
